March 23, 2010 PATIENT PROTECTION AND AFFORDABLE CARE ACT
The Senate passed the Paent Protecon and Affordable Care Bill on December 24, 2009, by a vote of 60–39. It passed the House of Representaves onMarch 21, 2010 by a vote of 219–212, and President Barack Obama signed the bill into law onMarch 23, 2010. One of the act's provisions requires individuals not covered by employer or government sponsored insurance plans tomaintainminimal health insurance coverage or pay a penalty unless exempted for religious beliefs or financial hardship.
