For their high-rise condo in downtown Denver, the home-
owners wanted not only a highly functional kitchen but also
increased storage, high-performance appliances, and an
expanded island for frequent entertaining. Also a must:
stand-out style and character. The designers achieved these
goals through several unique elements, including LED lighting
and glass tiles that accentuate the architecture of the island.
Custom back-painted glass doors behind the induction range
emit a subtle glow and slide open to reveal walnut-lined, LED-
lit storage for glassware and cooking essentials. The walnut
finish continues in the cabinet drawers, dividers, and wine
storage. The result is a contemporary kitchen with a spacious
feel that is sculptural—a wow factor that matches the condo's
dramatic 14-foot ceilings.

Part of a 1960s split-level home, this project's original kitchen
was dark and disconnected. To open up the space to adjacent
dining and living rooms, designer Hannah Hacker removed the
walls then reconfigured the layout from an L-shape with two
entrypoints to a G-shape with one entry. This created more
counter space and storage without adding square footage. Roll-
out shelves, blind corner swing-out shelves, tray dividers, and a
pantry pull-out further maximize cabinet space. Hacker selected
slab-front walnut and white cabinets for a modern-yet-warm feel;
the same walnut wraps three sides of a required support column,
with cork on the fourth side. Quartz perimeter countertops and
a solid glass backsplash accommodate homeowner requests
for low-maintenance finishes.
