Plenary sessions Each day of the conference will feature a different plenary speaker. Sunday afternoon, Kinam Park—pro- fessor at Purdue University, founder of the research company Akina, and edi- tor-in-chief of the Journal of Controlled Release—will present on biodegradable poly (lactide-co-glycolide) polymers. Monday morning, Rakesh Jain, profes- sor of radiation oncology at Harvard Medical School and director of the Steele Laboratories at Massachusetts General Hospital, will discuss, "Reengineering the tumor microenvi- ronment to improve cancer treat- ment." Tuesday, Molly Stevens, pro- fessor of biomedical materials and regenerative medicine and research director for the biomedical material sciences at Imperial College London, will talk about exploring and engi- neering the cell-material interface for drug delivery. Each plenary session will be followed by a half-hour inter- active session where attendees can meet the lecturer and ask questions regarding the plenary topics. Scientific sessions and roundtable discussions The educational program includes sessions on delivery technologies in cosmetic and personal care products, micro- and nanoparticle delivery, nucleic acid delivery, oral delivery for food and pharma, encapsulation for industrial applications, and other top- ics. There will also be a special ses- sion on how to better understand complex drug substances and com- p lex fo rm u latio n s th ro u gh th e GDUFA regulatory research program. Attendees will also have the chance to join an industry roundtable discus- sion hosted by Pfizer as well as other roundtable panels on emerging tech- nologies and advanced in silico applica- tions for rational drug development. The annual Controlled Release Society (CRS) meeting and exposition will take place July 22-24 at the New York Hilton Midtown Manhattan Hotel in New York, NY. Last year's event attracted more than 1,200 industry and academic professionals and 50 exhibitors. Visitors can attend pre-meeting workshops, networking groups, and plenary and scientific ses- sions focused on delivery science and technology. Pre-meeting workshops Half-day and full-day workshops are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22. They include the two-day workshop (a full-day ses- sion on Saturday and half-day session on Sunday) on oral peptide delivery s p o n s o r e d b y A s t r a Z e n e c a , Boehringer Ingleheim, Catalent, Gattefosse, and Lonza. During this workshop, pharmaceutical companies will present case studies on oral pep- tide candidates in preclinical and clin- ical development.
