Objectives
Students will be able to:
• Identify how scientists use different kinds
of ongoing investigations depending on the
questions they are trying to answer
(e.g., observations, models, experiments).
• Recognize the characteristics of a fair test.
• Explain how technology is used in science
for a variety of purposes (e.g., measurement;
data collection; communication of
information).
• Identify appropriate references to investigate
a question.
PROGRAM RESOURCES
• Learning Masters Book, pages 75–77, or at
myNGconnect.com
1 Introduce
Tap Prior Knowledge
•Ask: ¿Por qué investigarían algo? (to find
out what or why something happened) ¿Qué
se podría investigar en el mundo natural?
(volcanoes, hurricanes, animal behavior,
plant growth, forces, etc.)
•Ask: ¿Por qué es importante reunir
y registrar la información durante una
investigación? (to remember what was
learned and use the data to find an answer
or draw a conclusion)
2 Teach
Scientific Investigations
•Read the first paragraph on page 68 aloud
with students. Ask: ¿Qué es un plan de
investigación? (a plan for an investigation that
involves gathering, organizing, analyzing, and
communicating information)
•Read the second paragraph aloud. Ask: ¿Qué
son los métodos científicos? (plans that
scientists use to answer questions)
