Always going ahead of the pack and exploring new frontiers, Northeast brought Mississippi its first facility designed to house only health occupations programs for a community/junior college, and was the first school in Mississippi to institute an associate degree nursing program. Outside the classroom over 30 clubs and organizations, intramural sports, a fitness center and eight varsity sports are available to the student body. At the varsity level the "Tigers" are consistent contenders for championships on the state, regional and national level in baseball, men's and women's basketball, football, golf, women's softball, and men's and women's tennis. Athletic support groups such as the famous Tiger Marching Band, traditionally one of the largest collegiate bands in the state, a 12-member all female cheerleading squad and Pom squad are always among Mississippi's best. And for after class and when the game is over, five dormi- tories (three female, two male) house 824 beds for the resident student. Rooms are carpeted, air conditioned and wired with free cable TV and Internet. A full service cafe- teria, deli sandwich shop, pizza parlor and short order grill provide the students adequate choices at mealtime. Through concerts, lectures and sporting events, North- east brings many entertainment and cultural events to the northeast Mississippi area each year. Founded in 1948, Northeast, one of the youngest community/junior colleges in Mississippi, has emerged from modest beginnings to a place at the forefront of education, not just in Mississippi, but in the nation. Nor theast was also only the second institution in the nation to develop a country music curriculum. Northeast at Corinth Northeast Mississippi Community College officially opened the Northeast at Corinth facility on August 11, 2006. A 75,000 square foot facility donated to the college by the City of Corinth, Northeast at Corinth includes the redesign and renovation of 45,000 square feet of the building at a cost of $4 million. For those students planning to enter the workforce following graduation, Northeast offers a wide variety of career and technical programs. " "
