8 6 | t h e c l e v e r r o o t Between sessions on brand stewardship and the impact of design on the world around us, local chefs Douglas Keane of Cyrus, Two Birds One Stone and the Healdsburg Bar & Grill, and Dustin Valette, proprietor of Valette, were joined in a discussion on restaurant and food trends by author and wine educator Leslie Sbrocco, whose long-running PBS series Check Please! is a perennial favorite. The summit concluded with a rousing talk by MGM's Mark Burnett, President, Television and Digital Group, who shared his insights on the power of stories to propel ideas and innovations, followed by a well-earned innovation happy hour with pours from local wine and spirits producers including Dutton Goldfield, Jardesca, Iron Horse Vineyards, Kutch, Lynmar, Three Sticks and Devil Proof among others. In talking with Kilcullen after she had some time to reflect after the event, she said, "People loved the cross-pollination and interaction, but there was so much to choose from. Our approach for next year is, less is more." Harvest Summit was ambitious and vastly differ- ent in its concept and objectives from the silo confer- ences that are the standard fare in most industries. Kilcullen, the innovator, is already looking forward, "People gave us great suggestions about what they found valuable and how can we craft year two." For more information go to In their session titled "Analyze," Enolytics co- founder and journalist Cathy Huyghe (pictured) and Megan Mokri, CEO and Founder of Byte, discussed how their companies rely on data to innovate.
