CCS issues call for papers CLEVELAND, Ohio—The Cleve- land Coatings Society (CCS) is reach- ing out to industry professionals and leaders to present technical papers at the 2018 Sink or Swim (SOS) technical symposium. Papers should showcase your technical expertise on relevant coating industry topics from concept to realized product or methodology. The annual SOS symposium, which has been an industry leading forum for keynote speakers for the past 60 years, will be held June 5-6 at Cleveland's Air- port Marriott. The 2018 program theme is "Adapting to a Changing World, Ad- vances in Coatings Technology." The deadline for abstract submission is February 28, 2018. US Labor Department assists in Hurricane Irma recovery efforts WASHINGTON, D.C.—The US Department of Labor, in cooperation with state and local partners, has set aside funding and begun making grants to assess workforce needs in the US Vir- gin Islands, Puerto Rico, Florida, and other states in response to Hurricane Irma. The Department will continue to work cooperatively to assess needs as they develop and respond accordingly. The Department has deployed re- sources to support cleanup and recovery efforts, including providing Disaster Dislocated Worker Grants, administer- ing Disaster Unemployment Assis- tance, and much more. As it did in re- sponse to Hurricane Harvey, the Em- ployee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) is temporarily waiving certain requirements and deadlines related to retirement plans and group health plans, and is coordinating with other federal agencies that regulate employee benefit plans on relief for employers, other plan sponsors, and plan partici- pants and beneficiaries affected by the hurricanes.
