The Engineers Collaborative Canandaigua, NY 215-300-9563 www.engcollab.com may request that you and any con- sultants you hire work directly with the manufacturer. They request this collaboration so that the manufac- turer can recommend the proper dust collector for your dust collec- tion system. This request protects the manufacturer from sole liabil- ity in case their equipment isn't properly applied to the project. To be safe, your purchase orders must speci cally state your requirement that every dust collection system's component must be manufactured, fabricated, and installed accord- ing to current NFPA 652: Standard on the Fundamentals of Combusti- ble Dust and NFPA 654: Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combusti- ble Particulate Solids. More often than not, after the contractor receives a purchase order for the system fabrication and construction, he or she will suggest changes to the design and speci- cations. Typically, this is done to bene t the contractor by reducing their labor and construction costs. These suggested changes, while seemingly harmless, can adversely affect the dust collection system's success if not carefully evaluated by your design engineer. Read before signing. Also, be sure to read the ne print in the quotes obtained from dust collector manufacturers regarding respon- sibilities. Some manufacturers assume no responsibility for their equipment when it comes to res and explosions.
