Tablets & Capsules May 2020 31 Vacuum conveyor Low-rate vacuum conveyor gently delivers pharmaceutical powders to capsule- filling machines, tablet presses, packaging machines, or other process vessels. Stainless-steel unit conveys materials from handfuls to 3,500 pounds per hour and meets FDA specifications. Conveyor draws material directly from drums, boxes, or other storage containers, eliminating the need for manual scooping that can lead to messy dumping or mishandling. System features a compact design and tool-free disassembly for easy cleaning. Dust-tight connection between the vacuum receiver and press hopper maximizes cleanliness and product integrity, and the automatic pulse-jet filter cleaning system improves operating performance. Level sensor auto- matically starts the conveying cycle when the material level is low in the tablet press hopper. Conveyor is powered by an air-operated venturi power unit or a high-efficiency electric blower with few moving parts for minimal maintenance. Complete package includes the vacuum conveyor, power unit, vacuum hose, con- veying wand, and UL-listed control panel. Vac-U-Max, Belleville, NJ 973 759 4600 www.vac-u-max.com Pneumatic vacuum conveyors Pneumatic vacuum conveyors can transfer materials and dusts from 0.1 micron up to larger-sized tablets and capsules under lean-phase, dense-phase, or plug-flow conditions without particle damage or abrasion. Systems convey up to 3.5 tons per hour up to 300 feet horizontally and 100 feet vertically. Vacuum conveyors are easy to install, simple to operate, and keep the production environment clean by preventing material from escaping into the environment. In addition to excipients and other non-hazardous powders, conveyors are ideal for transferring hazardous active ingredients with OEB levels of 4 or 5. Features include modular components for customization and a gap-free design suitable for CIP and WIP processes. Volkmann, Bristol, PA 609 265 0101 www.volkmannusa.com Glovebox workstation Weighing and dispensing glovebox workstation provides containment for highly potent APIs (HPAIs) that require more safety than a vented enclosure, exceeding ISO 5 classification for clean processing of work while protecting operators from exposure. HEPA clean-air inlet and dual HEPA bag-in/bag-out fan filtration allow the unit to effectively contain toxic products. Exhaust can be recirculated into the lab or sent directly to house exhaust. Glove ports sit in a front-lift, hinged door that opens vertically for equipment loading/unloading and has air jacks for ease of use. Dished phenolic base is chemically resistant, maintains spills, and protects the work surface from harmful chemicals. Enclosure features include an adjustable internal LED light for improved visibility. Options include through-base sanitary fitting and sidewall pass-through attachments for continuous liners, single-use rigid or flexible containers, and rapid transfer ports. Glovebox is available in 4-, 5-, or 6-foot standard- width models. Custom units can be constructed with stainless steel, class, or a variety of other materials.
