42 January/February 2021 Tablets & Capsules product produced at multiple loca- tions [14-17]. Key drivers for differences in this data set are the particle size distribution, moisture content, and color. While color is a main driver for variation within the data set, the variation in color is similar for both roller dryers, and color is unlikely to be a functional driver. Therefore, further evaluation of differences within the data set focused on par- ticle size and moisture content, as well as on functionality testing. Further investigation of the vari- ation between the two roller dryers was performed by evaluating edge- of-knowledge-space batches that cover the variation over the 4-year time period. Figure 4 indicates the six batches that were selected for roller dryer 1 (RD1) in blue, and for roller dryer 2 (RD2) in red. Figure 5 summarizes further evalu- ation of the selected batches on par- ticle size distribution by Sympatec laser diffraction. The evaluation identified no significant differences Figure 4 Principal component analysis score plot for SuperTab 21AN indicating batches selected for further evaluation that represent the knowledge space for both roller dryers t[2] 5 4 3 2 1 0 -1 -2 -3 -4 t[1] -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4 R2x[1] = 0.171 R2x[2] = 0.145 Hotelling's T2 95% confidence limit — Selected RD1 Selected RD2 Figure 5 Additional laser diffraction results tested on the six selected batches for each roller (n = 5) Roller dryer Average value (µm) x10 x50 x90 1 12.0±0.7 155±6 312±14 2 11.9±2.5 150±12 306±8 Roller dryer 1 Roller dryer 2 Cumulative distribution Q3 (%) 100 80 60 40 20 0 Particle size (µm) 1 10 100 1,000 Sign up now by emailing kmyers@cscpub.com your name, company, and email address.
