PBE UPFRONT INDUSTRY NEWS Lonza to divest Specialty Ingredients business to private investment rms Lonza Group Ltd., Basel, Swit- zerland, has agreed to divest its Specialty Ingredients business to Bain Capital and Cinven for CHF 4.2 billion (about US $4.68 billion). Lonza states that the divestment will allow it to refocus its business as a pure-play partner in the health care industry. Bain Capital, Boston, MA, and Cinven, London, England, are both private investment com- panies and have other investments in the industrials sector. The trans- action is expected to be complete in the second half of 2021, and the focus of Lonza, Bain Capital, and Cinven is to smoothly transition invest in existing facilities to unlock the potential of the business." OSHA to update hazard communication standard OSHA has proposed updates to its hazard communication standard (HCS), the main federal require- ment that governs labels and safety data sheets (SDSs) for hazardous chemicals used in US workplaces. The nal rule would have multiple updates and likely would require almost all labels and SDSs to be revised. In 2012, OSHA revised the HCS to align with the United Nations' Globally Harmonized Sys- tem of Classi cation of Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). This worldwide system allows for hazard commu- nication and understanding across countries and has been updated employees and customers during the divestment. Lonza's Specialty Ingredients business has 17 manufacturing sites and 2,800 employees. It pro- vides microbial control solutions for professional hygiene and personal care products along with specialty chemicals and composites for the electronics, aerospace, food, and agrochemical industries.
