Lay oil pan upside-down on flat surface. Check all bolt holes for deformation. If any bolt holes are deformed upward toward the gasket surface, these bolt holes must be formed flat. Use a ball peen hammer to form the bolt holes back down to flat. Glue side gaskets to oil pan using gasket adhesive. Do not glue or Permatex the "horseshoe" end pieces in place. Obtain a set of six clips (P/N 229177) from your local Allis-Chalmers dealer to properly hold the end gasket sections in place while installing the oil pan. After clipping on the end gaskets, make sure the ends of the side gaskets overlap the top of the end gaskets. Most aftermarket gasket kits do not come with long enough side gaskets to overlap the end gaskets, so use OEM Allis-Chalmers gasket set P/N 229860 whenever possible. Step 4 Step 5 Use black oil-rated Permatex in the four corners of the engine block, where the side gaskets meet the end gaskets. USE ONLY A BEAD one-eighths inch diameter and one-half inch long. Also put a small bead of black oil-rated Permatex on the oil pan, in the gap where the side gaskets sit on top of the end gaskets. Clean the hardware before installation; it makes the process smoother and your hands cleaner. Step 6 Using guide studs, carefully install the pan to the engine block, making sure not to tear the cork end gaskets. To avoid warping the oil pan, draw up the pan evenly by tightening each bolt one turn at a time until the pan is firmly against the engine block. Closely watch the gaskets as the pan is tightened for misalignment. Torque all pan bolts evenly to a final torque of 12-15 feet per pound. Step 7 Use the reverse procedure to attach the engine, side frames and front end back to the tractor. Fill the engine with oil and coolant, connect battery, and you should have a leak-free oil pan.
