I would like to share a story with you about my Allis- Chalmers D14 I purchased in 2024. I grew up on an Allis- Chalmers D15 my dad bought new in 1962 with a four-row rear-mounted cultivator. Having no luck finding a D15 I liked, I came across a 1958 D14 completely restored in Pender, Neb. I gave the owner Richard Morse a phone call on a Friday morning to learn more about the tractor. He said it was purchased by his dad, Edwin, in April 1958 and had been in their family for 66 years. Richard proudly drove it home from the dealership at age 14. Also purchased at that time were a No. 5 rear-mounted Snap-Coupler sickle mower and a No. 14 loader. The Morses farmed with the D14 for 40 years, and it ended up with a cracked block. They parked it in a shed and forgot it until 2012 when Richard decided to have it restored to like-new condition. After the restoration, Richard brought it home. He put 21 hours on it between 2012 and 2024, then the tractor spent its time under a blanket in Richard's garage. Having no one in the family wanting the tractor, Richard decided it was time to sell the tractor, sickle mower, loader and a four-row Snap-Coupler planter and a three-bottom Snap-Coupler plow. Right place, right time: I told him I'd be there Sunday with the help of my sons Willie and Dan. The 350-mile trip meant an early morning. We made it in six hours on very icy roads. We arrived at 11 a.m. We loaded everything but the plow into a rented enclosed trailer. We saw the plow on Willie's flatbed truck and headed home to Pine Island. I told Richard it was not going to sit in my garage; we were going to shows and parades to show it off. I took it to five parades, four tractor rides and four shows in 2025. The highlight was the Orange Spectacular in Hutchinson, Minn., a three-day extravaganza featuring everything Allis-Chalmers. Now it looks really nice in my garage. Instead of an hour meter, I really need an odometer to track the mileage it has traveled. In December 2025, I also was able to purchase a 1957 Eska Allis-Chalmers D14 pedal tractor on an online auction to go with it. Right place, right time.
