By Bob Simon, Royalton, Minn. I worked for an Allis-Chalmers dealership from 1972 to 1990 (Cater and Odegard, St. Cloud, Minn.). We always said we sold only the best and serviced the rest. We had A-C, Ford, OMC, Papec, Fox, Minn, New Idea. When the N5's came out, there were a lot of update service schools. I believe this one was in Hutchinson, Minn., at the vocational school. The instructor started the day by telling a story. Here goes: It was the combine caravan in Kansas and the fields of wheat were huge. It happened that all three brands were combining wheat. All of a sudden, a rabbit ran into the red combine, right through the combine. Out the back the mangled rabbit came. A little while later, another rabbit got sucked into the green combine. Out it came, all mangled up. Soon, another rabbit got too close to the Gleaner and in he went. As fast as he went in, he came running out the back end. The other two combines flagged the Gleaner down. "You got problems," they replied. "A rabbit went through your combine and came running out." The operator replied, "No problem" and reached into the grain bin and replied, "We're just after the seeds." 'No-bunny' saw it coming Submitted photos Share your A-C story with us!
