Trio of lawn tractors, diggers turns heads Three rare Danuser A-10 posthole diggers mounted on Allis- Chalmers garden tractors were a favorite attraction this past July at Garden Tractor Daze in Portage, Wis. This year's show featured A-C and Simplicity lawn-and-garden tractors. Jason Holz, Jason Erickson and Reed Brandenburg, owners of the three tractors and diggers, share how they acquired their respective pairings. Holz found his through friend Ryan Franzen, who had called him regarding a B10 with posthole digger he found out about in southwestern Iowa. Holz said the only day that worked for him to pick it up was the Friday of the Olson Tractor Show in July 2021, so he left his western Wisconsin home at 4 a.m. and stopped in northeast Iowa to pick up Franzen, and they headed out to get it. After picking it up, Holz said he hurried home to load some more tractors and made it to the Olson Tractor Show in Elmwood, Wis., by 6:30 p.m. that Friday, making for a very long day. Erickson, also of western Wisconsin, found his Big Ten with Danuser A-10 posthole digger on the West Coast. In 1966, a Tacoma, Wash., rental company had purchased the unit. In 1978, Robert Kipp bought it from the rental company and restored it in 1998. Jason spotted it in 2020 on Facebook Marketplace. He bought it, then had to figure out how to get it home. That summer, Jason, along with his brother Jon and dad Ron, set out on a 3,300-mile round trip to retrieve it. Brandenburg's B12 and posthole digger was originally sold new in High Point, N.C. It is believed that it was used locally on a peanut farm. When he found it, it was missing several OEM parts such as the pump, clutch and everything mounted to the tractor. He said he was fortunate that almost everything he needed to restore it could be found at an old dealership in New York.
