2010 Review RESULTS 39 STATS
The 2010 University of Memphis women's soccer team had no intentions of slipping to the back of the pack after back-to-back-to-back C-USA Championships. They didn't. Memphis won the C-USA Tournament crown, garnered its fourth NCAA Championship appearance, and registered 15 more wins under Coach Brooks Monaghan. The Lady Tigers broke records on and off the field and combined for the school's winningest senior class ever with possibly its most talented freshmen and sophomore corps in history.
Four-straight conference tournament championships is something only 13 other programs in NCAA Women's Soccer history can lay claim to. The Lady Tigers and Boston University of the American East Conference carry the nation's longest active championship streak at four-straight. North Carolina holds the all-time record for consecutive tournament championships with 15 from 1987-2003. William & Mary (8, 1996-03), Notre Dame (7, 1995-2001), Florida (6, 1996-2001), North Carolina (5, 2005- 2009) and Loyola (5, 2000-2004) each hold longer streaks than Memphis, and seven other programs have four-straight tournament championships.
The Lady Tigers allowed only 19 goals last season and held 17-of-22 opponents to one goal or fewer (11 shutouts), while opponents mustered a mere 9.7 shots per game. Memphis produced 1.73 goals-per-game, but what made it such a scary attack was the balance of the unit. Seven different players had three or more goals, with Ashley Berra leading the attack with six. Taylor Isenhower and Rasheeda Ansari each recorded five goals, and Vendula Strnadova added four goals for Memphis. The unselfish attitude in U of M's play was evident by its 36 assists on 38 goals. Vendula Strnadova led the way in that category with seven helpers, followed by five from Berra and four from Christabel Oduro. Overall, nine players had two or more assists.
