Tablets & Capsules April 2016 31 Issue focus coating High-solids HPMC coating AquaPolish HS one-step film coating is made using Dow's Methocel premium VLV HPMC, plasticizers, and colorants. Very low-viscosity HPMC allows high solid content—25 percent versus traditional 15 percent—to maximize production. Coat- ing provides protective, readily soluble film to tablets, pellets, granules, and cap- sules at typical weight gain of 3 percent. Substituting modified starch for HPMC provides 20 percent solids content and adds possibility of coating at low temper- ature to create shiny surface that provides some moisture protection. All coatings are homogenous powder mixtures that rapidly reconstitute with water. Company offers enteric coatings and custom formulations; assistance in development, optimization, and production; and documentation and on-site technical support. Other products include sugar coatings and sugar-free isomalt coatings. Biogrund, Sterling, VA.
