No spe- cial training is needed. Making the switch Despite what I wrote above, I actually do know why many people delay switching their test methods. It comes down to paperwork. To replace a blue-dye water bath test with newer technology means spend- ing time updating your SOPs, the validation protocols, and other docu- ments. While that may seem like a trivial reason to resist change and prevent your company from saving money and improving operations, that's the truth. In fact, I hear it a lot: "I want to make the switch, but I just don't have the time." The nudge to adopt the machines usually comes when operational executives learn about the issue and push to have the machines installed as soon as possible. They see the long-term benefits. Next comes the decision about which technology to use. Some machines check for leaks in blisters without tooling and use high-resolu- tion cameras to observe how the lid- stock reacts to a vacuum. Others mea- sure the force exerted on a load cell when a vacuum is pulled. Whatever the method, a non-destructive app - roach is the best way to check pack- ages for leaks.
