OSHA investigators found the worker was installing a new commercial roof when he fell. No guardrails, safety nets, or personal fall prevention devices were in place at the time. In addition, OSHA determined that R&B failed to train workers about fall hazards, develop a safety and health program, designate a safety monitor, train powered industrial vehicle operators, and record injuries and illnesses. R&B faces proposed penalties of $116,900. APE acquires Corrosion Specialties DEER PARK, Tex.—APE Companies is expanding its reach and capabilities through the acquisition of Corrosion Specialties Inc., Duluth, Ga., a corro- sion control equipment and consum- able products provider that serves the transportation, manufacturing, and en- ergy industries. APE Companies, for- merly Abrasive Products & Equipment, is a distributor of surface preparation, safety, and environmental management products. Financial terms of the trans- action were not disclosed. Chemical firm integrates coatings center CINCINNATI, Ohio—An interna- tional business strategy firm specializing in specialty chemicals has announced the launch of a new facility to support the technology and production needs of clients in markets such as paints, coat- ings, adhesives, and sealants. The ChemQuest Group Inc., based in Cincinnati, reached an agreement on terms with the Industrial Development Authority of Halifax County, Va., that enables the firm to incorporate the Na- tional Center for Coatings, Applica- tion, Research, & Education (CCARE) into the newly formed ChemQuest Technology Institute. ChemQuest anticipates the integration of a physical site will strengthen the 40- year-old company's Technology and De- velopment services. Per the terms of the agreement, ChemQuest is now manag- ing the assets and expanding the capabili- ties of CCARE. CCARE is a 12,000- square-foot (and growing) cutting-edge facility designed to provide coatings sup- pliers with the ability to test their products in a controlled environment that repli- cates a range of production conditions. All of the existing laboratory capabilities and technologies, which were primarily designed for coatings applications, will remain, but ChemQuest plans to ex- pand functionalities throughout the sec- ond half of 2016. As part of the agree- ment, formulary and analytical laborato- ries will be added, and services expanded, to support specialty chemicals clients. Valmont Coatings wins seven galvanizing awards OMAHA, Nebr.—Valmont Industries Inc., a global leader in designing and manufacturing highly engineered prod- ucts that support infrastructure devel- opment and agricultural productivity, has announced that its Global Coatings Segment has won an unprecedented seven "Excellence in Hot-Dip Galva- nizing" awards. The awards are pre- sented by the American Galvanizing Association (AGA). Competition for the 15 awards in- cluded 129 impressive projects from galvanizers around the world, submit- ted to an independent panel of archi- tects and engineers for consideration. Hexion releases line of durable powder coating resins COLUMBUS, Ohio—Hexion Inc. has announced that its line of durable powder coating resins, including low- temperature cure options, are now available in North America. Through new and enhanced distribution chan- nels, the company is now supplying its Albester brand of durable and super- durable polyester resins, as well as its Al- becor LTC brand of low temperature cure, carboxyl-terminated polyester resins to the US and Canada. Hexion specializes in thermoset resins. Dynavac announces partnership with Winona PVD Coatings HINGHAM, Mass.—Dynavac, a leader in the manufacture of thin film deposi- tion systems, has entered into an exclusive supply agreement with Winona PVD Coatings, Warsaw, Ind., to produce In- line Production Systems that support growing demand for its GChrome depo- sition process. This partnership reflects a trend in the automotive industry to pro- duce a high-end chrome wheel finish using a less costly and more environmen- tally responsible alternative to traditional chrome plating and cladding. Spanning over 50 feet long, Dynavac's high-throughput system provides a completely automated, continuous manufacturing process that produces wheels in record time. The system's modular design incorporates multiple process stations, proprietary high-duty chamber isolation valves, and an inte- grated wheel handling system.
