46 May 2017 Tablets & Capsules supplier news TricorBraun publishes packaging preference study OAK BROOK, IL—Vitamin and dietary supplement consumers select product packaging based on how easy to use and secure the closure is, its dosing flexibility, and how intuitive it is, according to a study conducted by TricorBraun, a packaging supplier. The study results show that nutraceu- tical consumers look for dispensing closures with small openings to con- trol dosing, wide openings to dispense large tablets/capsules and gummies, audible clicks to indicate the package is securely closed, and large thumb recesses to enable users to easily open and close packages with one hand. While sustainable packaging is impor- tant to consumers, many are unwilling to compromise convenience or func- tionality for sustainability. Gattefossé opens North American technical center PARAMUS, NJ—Gattefossé, a supplier of excipients and specialty ingredients, opened a 5,300-square- foot technical center here. The center offers formulation troubleshooting, technical support, oral bioavailability enhancement, and help with modi- fied-release products. Sharp acquires Daiichi packaging facility BETHLEHEM, PA—Sharp Packag- ing Services, Allentown, PA, acquired Daiichi Sankyo's 146,000-square-foot pharmaceutical packaging facility here. The acquisition allows Sharp to offer additional serialization options for bot- tles, blisters, and packaging for Schedule II controlled substances, as well as extended redundancy and risk- mitigation services. Sharp will provide packaging, clinical, and analytical ser- vices for several of Daiichi's US prod- ucts and will retain the site's employees. Capsugel installs Harro Höfliger capsule filler BEND, OR—Capsugel, Morris- town, NJ, installed a Harro Höfliger Modu-C MS capsule filler at its facility here to encapsulate dry powder inhala- tion formulations. The machine can fill more than 72,000 capsules per hour and monitors dosed powder mass, fill weight ranges, and dose accuracy.
