'64 Jane (Austin) Winfield retired from the Greenville Hospital system in 2009. '65 Calvin F. Meyer was named dean of the School of Education at Dalton State College, Dalton, Ga. '66 William E. McCall retired from the Interna- tional Mission Board in May 2010. '66 Gary R. Tallent retired aſter teaching in Ten- nessee's Blount County School System. '68, '68 Blaine and Joy (Baber) Davis both retired from Roanoke, Virginia City Schools this year and now live in Apex, N.C. Dr. Casey Tudor Chollet '01, joined the faculty at Duke University Medical Center in the Department of Radiation Oncology. She also serves as the medical director of Radiation Oncology Services at Maria Parham Hospital, a satellite hospital of Duke. Along with conducting research on stereotactic body radiation therapy for lung cancer, she is a political advocate for cancer research funding. Prior to moving to Durham, she completed residencies at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center (2006- 07) and at Loyola University Medical Center (2007-11). 1950s '52 Grover Everett retired from ministry. '57 Charles L. Taylor received the 2011 Alumni Award for Excellence in International Outreach at Virginia Tech University. 1960s '60 Jack F. Woodward was awarded the Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award for his service as a wrestling official by the Maryland Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2010. '60 Pat Fitzgerald received the 2010 Pioneers Social Work Award. Pat lives in Augusta, Ga. '69 David W. Blackmon was elected by the Joint House and Senate Delegations from the 4th Judi- cial Circuit of South Carolina to a four-year term on the state's board of education. 1970s '70 Susan (Hudson) Womack retired as minister to preschool education at Tallowood Baptist Church, Houston, Tex. in 2010. '70 Rebecca (Williams) Guinn was named the 2010-11 Alabama Art Educator of the Year. '70 William L. Hunt retired as program ad- ministrator at the TVA Gallatin Fossil Plant in Tennessee. '71 Richard Reed retired aſter 40 years in public education at Greenville Academy, S.C. '71 James "Earl" Stroup retired from public education in Jefferson County. '73 S. Michael Grass was named the dean of students at the College and Career Academy in Rome, Ga. '74 Powell M. Trusler retired a second time, completing 34 years of service in the U. S. Army. He was awarded the Army's Legion of Merit in 2004. He and his wife Debbie are retired in El Paso, Tex. '74 Janice (Thayer) Rowland retired from Bristol (Va.) Public Schools in June of 2010, ending a 36-year career of teaching kindergarten and first grade. She continues to be an adjunct instructor for Virginia Intermont College, teaching reading classes for pre-service teachers in the education department. JOURNEY fall 2011 33
