our journey
Eye for Detail.
As Carson-Newman concludes its 160th year, there are many
reminders of its rich history. A photo from the 1890s offers a rare glimpse into life at newly renamed Carson and Newman College. This art class, utilizing chairs as easels, meticulously paints the likeness of a posed model in the center of the room. In the classroom (on the right) is a statue of Venus de Milo, as well as a bust of Beethoven. Over one door reads: "Art Hall. Finished by W.P. Jarnagin, Morristown, Tenn. In Memory of his mother Mrs. Emma Jarnagin." (Photo courtesy of C-N Archives)
