They have recently made minor revisions to the article, to clarify their data. The case study demonstrates the importance of lactose selection studies during formulation development and the need to perform such studies for every new development project. Although one carrier material may work ideally for an existing formulation, it may be wise to use a different carrier when changing the API, the concentration of the API or the device. The Plastiape Monodose RS01 is a single-dose per capsule inhaler, notable for its compact size, reduced number of parts and the simplicity of its perforation system. Suited to both gelatin and HPMC capsules, the standard RS01 is a low resistance device, reaching a pressure drop of 4 kPa at 100 L/ min. A high-resistance (4 kPa at 65 L/min) version is also available. The RS01 can be used with gen- eric medicines, even in small volumes, as well as highly inno- vative formulations. Conducted by Amer- ican Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. www.aaps.org/annual meeting continued from page 7 died in 2009. It is fitting that the Aerosol Society recognized her immense contribution by creating a Young Investigator's award in her name in 2010. A global event No one on that inaugural Commit- tee could have envisaged how suc- cessful DDL would become, and how much it has contributed, not just to the respiratory field, but in helping the Aerosol Society support UK activities in all areas of this scien- tific discipline. Sandy Munro was recognized for his efforts in promot- ing DDL by being made an Hon- orary Member of The Aerosol Soci- ety in 2009. Despite consolidation in the pharmaceutical industry, with significant numbers of UK job losses in the respiratory field, the Confer- ence remains a highly successful global event and continues to attract a high caliber of new scientific talent to the meetings, to sit alongside those who have remained in the field for far longer than they might have expected 26 years ago. John N. Pritchard, PhD, is Chief Technology Officer for the Respiratory Drug Delivery business unit within Philips. A founding Committee Mem- ber of The Aerosol Society, he was sub- sequently elected Vice-Chairman (1992-1996) and Chairman (1996- 1998), as well as serving on the Orga- nizing Committee of DDL for more than a decade.
