2012 BOB JOHNSON AWARD Johnson Poised For Role As New Captain America Development Program in 2003, the Indianapolis native has answered his country's call whenever asked. This year marked Johnson's 10th appearance representing the United States in international competition. He recorded three goals and an assist to help the U.S. to a 6-2 record, marking its most wins in the World Championships since 1990, and its best winning percentage since 1949. Johnson tallied a power-play goal against France in Team USA's 7-2 win in the tournament opener, and added two power-play goals, including the game winner in overtime, to propel the U.S. past Canada, 5-4. H eading into the United States' quarterfinal rematch against Finland at Jack Johnson shared a little the captain of with USA Today, and the rest of the American sporting public. The World Championships, said the U.S. National World Championship, secret the 2012 IIHF Team, "is the best kept secret in the United States hockey world." "Growing up as a hockey kid, I heard about the Olympics and the World Cup," said Johnson, who was serving his second stint as captain of the U.S. squad. "You don't hear about this tournament. ... But once you get here, you understand it's a huge deal. It's some of the best hockey you will ever play." That's pretty high praise coming from a man who knows a thing or two about competing in international tournaments. Since stepping on the ice as a member of the National Team ver-medal winning squad at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and has par- ticipated in five IIHF Men's World Championships (2007, 2009-12), two IIHF World Junior Championships (2006, 2007-bronze medal) and two IIHF Men's World Under-18 Championships (2004-silver medal, 2005-gold medal).
