Recently we welcomed a Przewalski's Horse foal to our Werribee Open Range Zoo family. Gorgeous Tsagaan was born to first-time mum Hatan and dad Ronald in May. Since then, Tsagaan has been settling into his new home with his playmate and half-sister Saikjan, a female foal born in December last year. The two youngsters can be seen from the safari bus, playing and learning how to be horses together while they also grow stronger every day. The fun loving pair particularly enjoy rolling and playing in the sand that is strategically dotted around the exhibit. Keepers say this is great for their skin and coat and a natural element of their wild habitat in Western Mongolia. The Przewalski's Horse was once considered extinct in the wild. Zoos and sanctuaries bred insurance populations over many years that were eventually released back to the wild in Mongolia with successful results. This makes every birth significant and being only one of 2,000 Przewalski's Horse in the world, Tsagaan is extremely precious. Tsagaan is growing up fast so make sure you visit him soon! ››› DID YOU KNOW? PRZEWALSKI IS PRONOUNCED SHA-VAL-SKI
