We continue to evaluate our business, recognizing what we do well and changing what we need to improve upon. You may have already noticed a few of these changes, such as the redesigned look of PBE magazine and our newly launched PBE website and digital content. But it's not just PBE that's changing. We're also noticing a change in our industry — a changing of the guard, so to speak. Many of our manufac- turing and service provider partners have longstanding employees who are retiring. In some cases, family members are lling the legacy positions, and in other cases, those shoes will be lled by people within the industry. One thing is certain about these up-and-comers — they're several decades younger than their predecessors. While we welcome them with open arms, we can't help but wonder who these people are and where they came from. What new ideas, processes, and solutions will they bring to the eld to assist us in facing the challenges the bulk solids industry presents? Truth be told, we know where some of these ne individuals hail from and that's Kansas State University's (K-State's) Bulk Solids Innovation Center in Salina, KS. The innovation center provides people with pro- fessional bulk solids industry training and graduate courses. You may recall we've reported on the Bulk Solids Innovation Center in the past. Today, I welcome not only the engineering newcomers but also Todd Smith, business and strategy manager at the center. Todd brought his 35 years of experience in the bulk solids industry to K-State. We've invited Todd to provide us with regular updates about K-State's curriculum and state-of-the art education, training, and research facility so we can keep you in the know. His rst update appears as this issue's Industry Per- spective column. At PBE, we see ourselves as stewards of the industry. We believe it's our responsibility to promote the bulk solids industry as an excellent one in which to work. We plan to take heed of the new generation of engineers, paying particular attention to what they're learning, what they're think- ing, and how to best meet their needs. Ultimately, we'll be celebrating this new generation while honoring the accomplishments of those who have paved the way thus far. Things are changing here at PBE and within the industry. It's exciting to look to the future with optimism and an open mind, and you can count on PBE to help lead the way!
