Unilever aims to cut virgin plastics use in half by 2025 Unilever, a consumer goods man- ufacturer, announced its intent to cut the company's use of virgin plastics in half by 2025. The com- pany uses approximately 1.5 mil- lion pounds of plastic packaging per year and intends to recycle 1.3 million pounds of plastics annu- ally by 2025 while also reducing its use of plastic packaging by 220,000 pounds. Unilever had previously announced a goal of reducing its recycled plastic foot- print by at least 25 percent and added the new target of reduc- ing its virgin plastic footprint by 770,000 pounds by 2025. The company will begin at the design stage and find ways to reduce plastic usage across its subsidiaries while also scaling up reuse and refill programs. Unile- ver will also ensure that all of the plastic packaging it uses is reusable, recyclable, or compostable.
