We apologize for the error. INDUSTRY NEWS Corteva acquires full ownership in cottonseed company joint venture Corteva Inc. (Corteva) has acquired full ownership from J.G. Boswell Co. (J.G. Boswell) of PhytoGen Seed Co. LLC (PhytoGen), a joint venture between Corteva and J.G. Boswell. PhytoGen was formed to serve the US cottonseed industry and Corteva had operated the venture in the US market through Mycogen LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary. According to Corteva, the acquisition shows the company's commitment to the cotton market. PhytoGen, Indianapolis, IN, has seed trait technologies to address pest management challenges for cotton growers. Founded in 1980 by J.G. Boswell, PhytoGen and Myco- gen Seeds (now owned by Corteva) formed a joint venture in 1998 to combine their expertise in cotton. Corteva will become the sole owner of the joint venture's intellectual property, including patents, trade- marks, proprietary germplasm, and other information. Corteva Inc., Wilmington, DE, is a global agriculture company that provides seeds, crop protection, and digital solutions to maximize yield and profitability. Corteva became an independent publicly traded company in 2019 and was previously the agriculture division of DowDuPont. logistical issues and tighter supplies for industrial users as well. Wisconsin feed mill cited by OSHA The US Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited Furst-McNess Co. for exposing employees to combustible dust and its potential hazards at a feed mill facility in Lodi, WI. The com- pany is facing about $148,400 in penalties. OSHA investigated the company and found that it hadn't implemented a housekeeping pro- gram. These safety programs are necessary to avoid combustible dust accumulations that occur during grain material storage and animal feed manufacturing. In addition to combustible dust hazards, the company has also been cited for failing to maintain grain-processing equipment. The company has 15 business days from the receipt of the citations and penalties to comply or request a conference with the area OSHA director. Companies can also contest the findings of an inves- tigation before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. Furst-McNess, Freeport, IL, has various locations in the US and Canada and serves the ani- mal health and nutrition industry, including delivering custom com- mercial feed and feed ingredients. Accenture acquires Callisto Integration to enhance digital-focused consulting business Accenture has acquired Callisto Integration (Callisto), a Toronto, Ontario-based provider of con- sulting and technology services to large companies in the food and beverage, chemicals, utilities, J.G. Boswell is the world's largest privately held farm with headquar- ters in Pasadena, CA. The farm produces cotton, tomatoes, and other crops along with owning a large cattle herd. Czarnikow Sugar says that global sugar consumption could drop due to COVID-19 The global commodities trader and market analysis company Czarni- kow Sugar Inc., London, England, has said that global sugar consump- tion could drop by 2 million metric tons (about 2.2 million tons) in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Analyst Ben Seed, in a note to clients, fore- cast that the decline in 2019-2020 could leave sugar consumption flat compared to 2018-2019. The new forecast is down from a predicted 1 percent increase. He went on to predict that global sugar consump- tion would decrease on a per capita basis in 2020. The analyst also noted that sugar consumption's decrease would be from the collapse of out-of-home food and drink consumption along with supply chain difficulties. A decline in consumption is expected in countries on lockdown and where significant isolation steps have been taken. Sugar processors and refiners have noted that business is strong and that sugar supplies are tight because of sugar beet and sugar cane crop problems in 2019. This means that while sugar prices are high, some of the price increase may be passed on to grocery con- sumers, but some of the price increase may be absorbed by retail- ers anxious to keep consumers shopping.
