Working Dogs BY MICHAEL CHATFIELD PHOTOGRAPHY BY KELLI ULDALL 78 C A R M E L M A G A Z I N E • S U M M E R / F A L L 2 0 2 0 Zoi J eweler Brad Weber named Zoi (pronounced Zo-ee) after Blue Zoisite, a form of Tanzanite that he calls "a soft and pretty gemstone." This 11-month-old Shepherd/Rottweiler mix is currently in training, learning the ropes at Weber's Goldsmith Gallery at the Carmel Crossroads. She's soft and pretty, just like her namesake, and spends her days making friends with customers. Colette A true Carmel lady, this polite and proper 11-year-old miniature poodle can be seen daily at the Carmel Crossroads' Home by the Hearth Shop with her owner Barbara Buck. "She is wonderful," Buck says. "She's had advanced obedience training and loves helping customers navigate through the store. Colette is the best dog ever." And what's a lady without her jewelry? Colette loves to sport her pearls, while always wearing her favorite scent, Chanel No. 5. "A cat, after being scolded, goes about its business. A dog slinks off into a corner and pretends to be doing a serious self-reappraisal." ~ Robert Brault Zoi 78
