Co-processed lactose CombiLac co-processed excipient for use in direct-compression formulations contains 70 percent alpha-lactose monohydrate, 20 percent microcrys- talline cellulose, and 10 percent white corn starch. Components are integrated into cohesive monoparticles that improve compaction properties and flow performance compared to equiva- lent admixture of its ingredients. Excip- ient simplifies development and manu- facture and provides rapid, hardness-independent tablet disintegra- tion while minimizing tablet friability. Product complies with USP, Ph.Eur., and JP requirements. Meggle USA, White Plains, NY. Addition of 1 percent SSL-SFP to problem formula- tions can resolve tablet capping and hardness problems; tablet size can be reduced by replacing 15 percent MCC with 3 percent SSL-SFP. Super-low-vis- cosity grade (2 to 2.9 megapascal-sec- onds at 20°C in 2 percent aqueous solu- tion) promotes high compressibility in dry-binding applications and allows rapid disintegration and dissolution. Compared to common dry binders, excipient produces harder tablets and lower friability without hindering API release. HPC can be used with direct- compression immediate-release tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, roller-com- pacted/dry granulations, HPMC matrix tablets (hardness enhancement), and poorly compressible APIs. Company offers products with ultra-low heavy metal content and Jostcote microen- capsulated mineral salts that help mask taste and odor of APIs and minimize inter- action of components. Manufactured at its 210,000-square-foot, FDA-registered site, products meet bulk pharmaceutical cGMP and US and EU pharmacopeial stan- dards; all are free of allergens and BSE/TSE pathogens. Validated processes ensure consistent lots that meet regulatory requirements. Jost Chemical, St. Louis, MO. Tel. 314 428 4300 www.jostchemical.com Need info? New subscriber?
