34 January 2016 Tablets & Capsules Lab-scale granulators and dryers Company's lab-scale, modular equipment includes spray dry- ers, prilling towers, fluid-bed processors, vacuum dryers, high-shear granulators, extruder-spheronizers, and homoge- nizers. Glass vessels and Plexiglass housings enable you to observe processing. Equipment enables you to take precise measurements, automate processing, and report critical process parameters to enhance understanding and achieve QbD. Using modules reduces cost and space requirement by 30 to 50 percent compared to conventional lab equipment. Photo shows 4M8-TriX modules: spray dryer-chiller, pan coater, fluid-bed dryer-coater, and touch-screen controller. ProCepT, Philadelphia, PA. Tel. 610 518 0335 www.pro-c-ept.com Continuous granulation suite Lödige's Granucon continuous granulation suite combines company's CM 5 continuous high-shear wet granulator with its LCF 5 continuous fluid-bed dryer. Dryer's integral screw conveyor—which operates in close tolerance to unit's hemi- spherical bottom screen—eliminates wide variation in resi- dence time. Screw removes quickly and easily for cleaning. Other features include exchangeable bottom screen, wash- in-place system, individual cleaning of filter elements, and control over air volumes in dryer's three chambers. ModWave, Hermosa Beach, CA. Tel. 310 918 6772 www.modwave.com Fluid-bed processor GPCG 10 fluid-bed processor uses top, bottom, or tangential spray and variety of inserts to dry, granulate, coat, and pel- letize. Drying and granulation insert with top spray agglom- erates particles to improve flowability, content uniformity, and compressibility; combination also applies lipid, taste- masking, and enteric coatings. Wurster HS insert with bot- tom spray coats granules with aqueous or organic controlled- release or enteric coatings; it also layers active ingredients, even on particles smaller than than 50 microns. Rotary insert with tangential spray produces pellets and micropellets directly or by powder layering, which can increase particle mass tenfold. Rotary insert's tangential spray also film-coats particles. Options include HP nozzle that sprays from below fluid bed and 12-bar resistance to pressure shocks. All com- ponents install and remove easily for quick cleaning. Typical batch sizes are 2 to 25 kilograms. Company also offers cus- tom systems. Glatt, Ramsey, NJ. Tel. 201 825 8700 www.glatt.com
