ZOO NEWS M EM B ER MAGA ZIN E 09 0 1 VOLU M E 38 MARCH 20 18 PLAYING THE ROLE Alfie, his younger brother and his mum are regular visitors to Keeper Kids at Melbourne Zoo. According to Keeper Kids' Presenter Rachel Morton, he absolutely loves his visits and is one of the youngest and most passionate conservationists. "He's absolutely crazy about Corroboree Frogs!" Rachel says. "I see Alfie in Keeper Kids most weeks, and he always goes straight for the Researcher's Vest and loves learning about how he can help save animals." Rachel knows that fostering a passion I like dressing up and going outside. I put on the researcher's vest and then I make a fort. Alfie like Alfie's from a young age is really important for later in life, "If we encourage children to love and care for animals at a young age, they can carry these values throughout their lives and our environment will be left in safe hands." "A highlight of my job is definitely making these special connections, especially with our members, I just love it!" Our Early Childhood Education Specialists, Rachel and Hannah, deliver daily programs designed for young visitors in Keeper Kids. VISIT THE PLAY SPACES On your next visit to your zoos, be sure to check out the play spaces. Kids will learn about the range of duties that go along with working at a zoo or with animals. Dress up and use props, plush toy animals and let their imaginations take over. Check out zoo.org.au for special activity times.
