ZOO NEWS M EM B ER MAGA ZIN E MEET KATHERINE THE LION KEEPER Katherine is one of the lion keepers at Werribee Open Range Zoo. Katherine or 'Quinny' as she is known is responsible for caring for the growing lion pride made up of eight cubs, parents and an elderly lion making a multi-generational family group which is similar to how groups of lions would live in the wild. Keeper Katherine has been a Zoo Keeper at Werribee Open Range Zoo for six years and knows that a complex family group keeps her and the team on their toes. After working with lions and other wildlife in Africa and the US, Quinny now spends her time primarily working with the lion pride at the Zoo and has played an instrumental role in the Zoo's successful lion breeding program. "Our pride at Werribee Open Range Zoo has grown now to 12 lions which has created an enormous amount of energy amongst the group," Keeper Katherine said. "They are amazing animals and each lion has their own unique personality so our care and training regimes vary to cater for each." Towards the end of 2017 the youngest lion cubs were named by Victorians. They chose some beautiful African-inspired names: Asali, Ilola, Ato and Lwazi. 06 A DAY IN THE LIFE A DAY IN THE LIFE
