Post Graduate SuccessCompeting Beyond CollegeGaute MyklebuSt Gail Lee Keenan GibSOn Daniel KiSS The end of a career at the U of M doesn’t necessarily spell the end of the line for an athlete’s days of competition. Several U of M track and field athletes have gone on to much success and athletic glory after their days of representing the Blue and Gray have passed. Notable among these athletes is Susan King. King, a two-time All-American at the U of M, finished sixth at the 2008 Olympic trials with a 17.93m toss; teammate and former Lady Tiger Gail Lee also had a throw of 16.60m at the Trials. Lee and King did not qualify for the Games, but two other Tigers have roared at the Olympics. Keenan Gibson, who still owns the school record in the 200m dash in outdoor and indoor disciplines, Gibson went to Athens as a representative member of the 4x100m relay team for Trinidad and Tobago; as an alternate, Gibson was at the Athens games but did not compete. Former Tiger Daniel Kiss went a step further than Gibson, representing his native Hungary at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Kiss made it to the semifinal qualifying round in the 110m hurdles before bowing out. More recently, Kiss took home the bronze medal at the 20th European Championships in the 110m hurdles with a 13.39-second run. Daniel KiSS Former Tiger Gaute Myklebust, who holds school marks in the discus and shot put, is also a two- time competitor and representative of his native Norway at the World Championships. - 12 - SuSan KinG
