{ SOMMjournal.com }  75 A long-running joke in New York City claims that New Yorkers have so much black in their closets that they need flashlights just to find something to wear. You could say that was the case in the fashion capital, where a sea of black-clad guests attended the recent party where Penfolds and GQ announced their Best Dressed Somm in this year's com- petition. But darkness notwithstanding, the light shone on the five stylish somms who made the final cut and appeared onstage at the super-chic Penfolds House. Chosen from a field of more than 100 fashionistas from all over the country who tweeted and "grammed" their styles to #best- dressedsomm, the final five was a diverse group: Trinidadian– now Brooklyn resident Elphin Murren of Kingside Restaurant; two Los Angelenos—Taylor Grant of Scopa Italian Roots and Matt Bostick of Osteria Mozza; Australian-born Nico Snyman from Joël Robuchon at the Mansion in Las Vegas; and Kyle Kyle Ridington, Chef Sommelier at Piora in New York City, shows off his winning style.
