On Saturday, July 20, the Young Scientist pre-meeting workshop will take place from noon to 2:30 pm, and from 8:00 am to 11:00 am the following day, attend- ees can join the Young Scientist Professional Development forum. Attendees will have the opportu- nity to listen to experienced drug delivery researchers discuss their careers and offer advice to those starting their own journey in drug delivery research at the Young Scientist Meet & Greet with a Luminary on July 21 from 11:00 am to noon and at the Young Scientist Start with a Luminary session on July 2 3 f r o m 7 : 0 0 a m t o 8 : 0 0 a m . Luminaries include Ben Boyd, PhD, of Monash University; Maria Jose Alonso, PhD, of the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain; D a v i d B r a y d e n , P h D , o f t h e University of Dublin; Kinam Park, PhD, of Purdue University and edi- tor-in-chief of the Journal of Controlled Release; and Mark Prausnitz, PhD, of Georgia Tech. The 46 th annual Controlled Release Society (CRS) meeting and exposition will take place July 21-24 at the Palacio de Congresos de València, in Valencia, Spain. More than 1,200 industry and academic professionals focused on drug deliv- ery, pharmaceutical science, con- sumer and diversified products, pre-clinical science, and animal health are expected to attend this year's show. On Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21, visitors can participate in h a l f - a n d f u l l - d a y p r e - m e e t i n g workshops. These workshops are generally a collaborative effort between industry and academia and will cover topics such as nano-parti- cle-based therapeutic delivery for- mulations, oral drug delivery, and phospholipid excipients. Sunday evening, attendees are invited to the opening reception on the show floor, where they will be able to interact with exhibitors and poster presenters. During the conference, visitors can attend networking groups and scientific sessions focused on the advancements of controlled-release science in the fields of bioengineer- ing, drug delivery, material science, pharmaceutics, consumer and diversi- fied products, and veterinary science. O n M o n d a y , D r . R a l p h Weissleder, professor at Harvard Medical School and director of the Center for Systems Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital, will present the plenary session "New Approaches in Imaging and Sensing of Drug Action," reviewing his research on PK/PD imaging as well as new sensor technologies for monitoring and molecular diagnos- tics in patients. On Tuesday, Ana Jaklenec, a research scientist at MIT, will discuss recent advancements in oral con- trolled-release systems for food and nutraceutical applications. On Wednesday, after a morning of scientific sessions, the confer- ence will end with the closing ses- sion and awards ceremony from noon to 2:00 pm.
