Teach, continued •Ask: ¿Qué es la  mañana ? (the beginning of the day) ¿Dónde está el Sol durante la  mañana ? (low) Discuss how the sun appears to slowly climb in the sky throughout the  mañana . •Repeat for the words  mediodía  and  tarde . Recognize the Apparent Motion of the Sun •Draw a T Chart and label the columns, as shown. •At the beginning, middle, and end of the school day, have students go outdoors and observe the position of the sun in the sky. Remind students never to look at the sun directly. If the day is cloudy, observe again on a sunny day or have students infer where they would see the sun on a sunny day. •Record the time of day and the sun's position in the sky. Use landmarks, such as parks, highways, or tall buildings, to help locate the sun's position. (It seemed to move.) Differentiated Instruction Extra Support Have students draw the sun in the morning, at noon, and in the evening and have them write labels for the drawings. Check the placement of the sun and the labels for understanding. Challenge Have students write sentences that define the words morning, noon, and evening in their own words. Then have them draw pictures of the sun in the sky to accompany each of their defintions. Students may share their sentences and drawings with the class or clip them to the Big Book. • Ask: ¿Qué piensan que sucederá a continuación con el Sol? (Possible answer: It will seem to move lower and lower in the sky.) Encourage students to observe the sun during the  tarde  to confirm their prediction. On the following school day, have students report on their observations. Record this information in the T Chart. Before You Move On Ask students: 1.Recall  ¿En qué momento el Sol está alto en el cielo? (at noon) 2.Compare and Contrast  ¿En qué se parecen la  mañana  y la  tarde ? ¿En qué se diferencian? (Possible answers: At both times of day, the sun appears low in the sky. Morning is at the beginning of the day, but evening is at the end of the day.) Day and Night  T11
