Teach, continued Observe and Recognize the Properties of Stars •Draw a large rectangle on the board. Have the class help you fill in the rectangle to make a realistic picture of stars in the night sky. •First draw three small, white dots. (We should add many more stars.) (They should be different). Add more white dots to the drawing. Draw some smaller and fainter and draw others larger and brighter. The stars should differ in brightness and size, be scattered across the board, and be numerous. (Possible answers: tiny; bright; different; scattered; very many) Making and Recording Observations  Tell students to observe the stars in the sky tonight, or on the next clear night, and then draw a picture of them in their science notebook. The next day, students may compare their drawings with one another and with photos in the Big Ideas Big Book. (too many to count) 2.Explain  ¿Por qué no podemos ver las estrellas durante el día? (The sun makes the sky too bright to see the stars.) Differentiated Instruction Extra Support Have students draw a picture of stars in the night sky. Then ask basic questions for understanding. For example: ¿Son todas las estrellas del mismo tamaño? ¿Son brillantes todas las estrellas? Encourage students to revise their drawings to more accurately show stars, if necessary. (Possible answer: The sky might get too light before you finish; you might lose your spot and count a star more than once; clouds may get in the way.) Challenge Have students draw a picture of stars and then write a caption to describe their picture. Tell students that the caption should explain what the picture shows. Have students show their pictures and read the captions aloud to the class. Day and Night  T15
