elma roane fieldhouse An intimidating arena for opponents of the University of Memphis women’s basketball and volleyball teams, the Elma Roane Fieldhouse serves as the home of the Tigers right in the heart of the University of Memphis campus. The arena is oſten packed with Tiger fans and gets loud and raucous during games with the stands backing right up to the benches courtside. That has provided the Tigers with a great home-court advantage over the years. INFO MORE FIELDHOUSE HIGHLIGHTS Situated in the heart of the University of Memphis’ campus, the 2,565-seat Elma Roane Fieldhouse is home to the Memphis volleyball and women’s basketball teams. The Fieldhouse is equipped with locker rooms and a fully functional training facility. The Fieldhouse is currently receiving a renovation for an entirely new locker room, team meeting room, video room, doctor’s examination area and team lounge that will benefit volleyball and women’s basketball. That project is slated to be completed in November of 2010. Over 900 chairback seats were added to the arena in the summer of 2003. A new floor was also put down. Banner wraps around the entire perimeter of the playing floor were added to the Fieldhouse in 2009. The Tiger eyes banner at the end of the gym was also changed in 2009 to reflect the Memphis colors of blue and gray. 2010 MEMPHIS VOLLEYBALL EXPERIENCE 4 The Fieldhouse is named aſter former women’s athletic director Elma Neal Roane. A pioneer for women’s athletics at Memphis and in the Mid- South, Roane still attends games in her namesake building, cheering on the Blue and Gray. And for women’s student-athletes, the Fieldhouse is an all-in-one stop with a weight room and athletic training room in the lower level of the Fieldhouse.
