A 46 Year Refresh
The Bob Boldrick Theater was constructed in 1974, and up un l this year
(2019), it mostly remained untouched. With brown seats and orange walls,
the theater was prac cally a me capsule into the design trends and color
themes of the 1970's. As the largest sea ng venue in Carson City, the thea-
ter has housed community events, public mee ngs, trainings, and dozens
of popular performances such as Les Miserables, The Phantom of the
Opera, Mama Mia!, and much more over its several decades of opera on.
As any patron of the theater could tell you, a er 46 years the theater was
in desperate need of a faceli . In 2018, $600,000 from various sources was
allocated to the refresh of the theater's main auditorium. Construc on be-
gan in December of 2018 and completed in February 2019. The project con-
sisted of replacing 566 seats, new carpet, resurfacing the concrete floor,
new paint job, adding aisle ligh ng, and new acous c panels. When you
come to a performance at the theater, you will have a significantly more
comfortable experience. Each seat is several inches wider than the former
ones, resul ng in almost 200 less seats than before.
As part of the Grand Re-opening and Ribbon Cu ng, the Carson City Cham-
ber of Commerce hosted a fundraising gala at the newly renovated theater.
Through the Chamber's efforts, almost $20,000 was raised to make match-
ing improvements to the theater's lobby. New chandeliers have already
been installed, and the remainder of the funds will be used to install new
blackout curtains, a sound system, and more.
If you have not yet been to the new theater, it's worth a visit. Check out
the lineup on the next page to see a sample of the wonderful events hosted
at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the upcoming months.
