Honest Tea beverage brand, owned by Coca-Cola, is testing interactive vending machines that enable shoppers to donate to charity as part of its "Small decisions. Big impact" campaign. At a time when 58 percent of U.S. adults are more likely to try products and services from companies that are mindful of their environmental and societal effects, according to Natural Marketing Institute, these beverage dispensers may be a powerful marketing tool. Customers will have a chance to increase their transaction amount with an "Up Your Impact" purchase and vote on philanthropic projects they'd like to support. One hundred percent of the purchase price of the beverage and any additional donations will go to projects organized by Fair Trade USA and the Organic Farming Research Foundation, which Honest Tea has partnered with for the past 21 years. At press time, the machines were scheduled to debut in New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Maryland.
