Déjà Vu All Over Again B Y M I C H A E L C H AT F I E L D D éjà Vu Couture, a four-decades-old Carmel consignment clothing shop, is re-energized with the arrival of new owner Golnesa Payan. A Pacific Grove native, she's been immersed in the world of clothing since birth. "Fashion is in my blood," she says. "My grandmother was a furrier and my mother has operated Pari's Boutique and Alterations for many years in Pacific Grove. I essentially grew up in fabric stores." The energetic owner literally bubbles with joy as she enumerates the many ideas she has for her new business. Moving around the shop, she points out many top-tier, designer pieces in pristine condition—some with original store tags still attached—all priced at a fraction of the original cost. "I help customers build a staple wardrobe and have fun dressing up," Payan says. Payan offers a ser vice called "Closet Cleanse," which helps women downsize and redesign their wardrobes. She maintains a ware- house that contains more than 200 wedding dresses on consignment and, drawing on her furrier heritage, repurposes furs into current fashion or home décor. She also plans to stage fashion shows. "I want to operate Déjà Vu right," Payan says. "There's so much potential here." Déjà Vu is located at 26366-A Carmel Rancho Lane, in Carmel.
