Included are social, ethical and public issues and analysis of the social impact of business responses. Prerequisites: None •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• SLG - Sign Language SLG101 / 4 CREDITS / 4 PERIODS AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE I Introduction of principles, methods, and techniques for communicating with deaf people who sign. Development of expressive and receptive sign skills, manual alphabet, numbers, and sign vocabulary. Overview of syntax, grammar, and culture related to American Sign Language (A.S.L.). Prerequisites: None. SLG103 suggested as a corequisite but not required. SLG102 / 4 CREDITS / 4 PERIODS AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE II Continued development of knowledge and language skills for communicating with deaf people who sign. Includes numbers, fingerspelling, and culture. Emphasis on enhancement of receptive sign skills and continued development of expressive sign skills. Application of rudimentary, syntactical, and grammatical structure stressed with continued development of sign vocabulary. Prerequisites: SLG101 with a grade of "C" or better, or permission of Department or Division. Completion of prerequisites within the last three years is required. SLG103 / 1 CREDIT / 1 PERIOD INTRODUCTION TO THE DEAF COMMUNITY History and development of American Sign Language (A.S.L.) and English codes. Overview of education for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. Legal rights and common adaptive devices used by Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals. Prerequisites: None. SLG110 / 2 CREDITS / 2 PERIODS FINGERSPELLING I Introduction to basic fingerspelling techniques. Concentration on receptive and expressive skills including manual alphabet production and numbers. Focus on methods, theory, and applications. Prerequisites: SLG101, or permission of Department or Division. Completion of prerequisites within the last three years is required.
