This year-and-a-half old Bichon Frise spends each weekend at the Carmel Chamber of Commerce's Visitors Center in the Carmel Plaza with owner Rose Welch. "She is a perfect Chamber dog," Welch says. "She sits in the window and everyone thinks she's a stuffed animal until she moves. She's an ambassador for Carmel visitors, human and canine. She loves everyone." Bubba B ubba knows how to keep a secret. It's part of his job at the Panetta Institute. Leon and Sylvia Panetta adopted this 8-year-old Golden Retriever recently. "The minute we met him, we absolutely fell in love," Sylvia says. He's in the office every day, and he is the soul of discretion, never uttering a peep about the many secrets a former CIA Director and Secretary of Defense might discuss. But mostly, he's a loving, well-trained pooch with a pleasant personality. "Dogs do speak, but only to those who know how to listen." — Orhan Pamuk
