Celebrating 50 Year s of Victor y Toyota I n today's short attention span society, any human endeavor that endures long enough to celebrate a 50th anniversary is remarkable. In September, Seaside's Victory Toyota was recognized by its parent compa- ny as having reached that golden-anniversary milestone. President Peter Blackstock accepted the honor, presented by Pete Cary, vice president and Briana Nelson, assistant general manager, San Francisco Region, Toyota Motor Sales, Inc. The occasion was celebrated with a grand re-opening on September 22, attended by business and community leaders and Toyota representatives. "We are extremely proud to be able to say that our dealership has been providing exemplary service to our community for a half-century," Blackstock said. "And we look forward to doing so for many, many years to come." Victory Toyota is not resting on its laurels, however. As the Monterey Peninsula's first and only LEEDS (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified automotive dealership, the company keeps a firm eye on the future. The building is designed to have as little impact on the sensi- tive Central Coast environment as possible by implementing measures that reduce energy and water consumption and keeping contamination to a minimum. Also, in this time of drought, the company is participating in Toyota's "The Wash Can Wait" program, giving customers the option to forego the complimentary car wash that would typically be performed with a serv- ice appointment. Peter Blackstock and his wife Barbara take great pride in these achieve- ments, but they derive greater satisfaction in the work they do to make the Monterey Peninsula a better place. "I firmly believe in giving back to the community," Blackstock says. They donate generously to, among others, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Monterey County, Meals on Wheels, First Tee of Monterey County, Rancho Cielo and Stevenson School. "We do it because we want to, not because we have to," he adds. "We feel it's necessary." What's next for Peter Blackstock? "I'm never going to retire," he says. "I don't believe in it." —Michael Chatfield SHORTCUTS NEIGHBORS 58 C A R M E L M A G A Z I N E • H O L I D A Y 2 0 1 5 Victory Toyota President Peter Blackstock receives an award from Briana Nelson, Toyota's assistant regional manager for San Francisco, celebrating 50 years in business.
