Guitarist Releases Homage to Carmel on New CD B Y M I C H A E L C H AT F I E L D K aweh Guido was introduced to guitar when a kid playing outside a San Jose pool hall showed him a couple of chords. "I was hooked," he says. He soon bought a guitar, utilizing the bad judgement many young people display: "I wrote a bad check for it," he laughs. But he went home, put on a garage sale and made the check good. No longer a perpetrator of such shenanigans, Kaweh (pronounced KA-vay) has become a fix- ture around the Carmel restaurant scene. His newly released CD, "Fiesta Carmel," contains 15 original compositions, many named after his favorite haunts: Affina, Yafa, Mundaka and Dametra. "This is my way of giving back to the town that has been so good to me," the guitarist says. "I'm trying to remind people of our thriving ar tistic community." The tunes on "Fiesta Carmel" are upbeat, uplifting and joyful, reflecting the personality of their composer. Born in Germany, he moved with his Iranian father to that country at the age of 6. "We were stuck there during the Iran/Iraq war," Kaweh recalls. He eventually made his way to the Silicon Valley, and from there, to Carmel. He can be heard frequently at the aforemen- tioned restaurants. For more information or to purchase "Fiesta Carmel," visit www.kaweh.com. SHORTCUTS MUSIC Highly creative, endlessly entertaining, Kaweh is a welcome addition to the Carmel music scene. His new CD is upbeat and lively—like the man himself 80 C A R M E L M A G A Z I N E • S U M M E R / F A L L 2 0 1 6 Photo: Manny Espinoza Photography
