Retired Jerseys Al BrownA long-time fixture around the Memphis athletic scene, Al Brown was the first head baseball coach in Tiger history to lead the Blue and Gray to a 20-win season, which he did in back-to-back seasons in 1964-65. The Tigers had winning records in seven of Brown’s nine seasons at the helm, and he stepped down as the program’s all-time winningest coach in 1971. A well-respected member of the Memphis community, Brown also served as manager of Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium and the Memphis Fairgrounds. He was the Executive Director of the M Club and long-time board member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, which he was inducted into in 2007. 2011 Memphis Baseball Experience • Page 42
