E n s u r i n g a S t r o n g F u t u r e 56 | P a g e Park and Campground: Key focus Areas The key focus areas of the Park and Campground Operations are Financial Sustainability, Park Management and Maintenance, a Dynamic Vision Plan and Organizational Development Financial Sustainability As a self-sufficient enterprise operation with over 750,000 visitors annually, Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve is a model for the positive economic benefits of a park and campground for the community. Santee Lakes provides several unique guest opportunities which activate tourism in East County. One of our largest revenue streams, RV camping, continues to see unprecedented and continual growth in the industry. RV owners aged 35 to 54 posted the largest percentage gains in ownership over the past decade. A common measure of growth for the industry is new RV shipments. As of November 2016, the total number of shipments has grown to 397,721 units which is 14.9% greater than the same period last year. This represents the largest shipment year since 1977. Year to date, shipments are running at an annualized rate of nearly 428,000 units which would make 2016 the best RV shipments in 39 years. RV Storage also provides a reliable revenue stream for operations and benefits the community by providing safe, protected, off-street parking. Park Management and Maintenance Often over-looked, park maintenance takes leadership, dedication and a commitment to repairs and restoration. A comprehensive facility maintenance and capital improvement program, enhanced environmental landscape, and other facility appearance upgrades will showcase recycled water use. Sound infrastructure, along with strong operations and maintenance, will help ensure that Santee Lakes remains a safe, efficient and profitable branch of District operations.
