E n s u r i n g a S t r o n g F u t u r e 63 | P a g e Information Technology (IT) The Information Systems (IS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) workgroups provide technology infrastructure, solutions, and services that support the mission, vision, and values of the District. Every department relies on IT for daily operations; it is important that the related infrastructure be maintained and technical services provided so productivity remains high. The IT Department is currently staffed with six full time employees; their roles and related areas of responsibility are listed in the chart below. Overseen by the IT Manager, the first two roles comprise the IS Workgroup while the third comprises the GIS Workgroup; together the department effectively serves the ever expanding needs of a forward thinking District. Role Main Areas of Responsibility Technical Systems / Systems Administration Computer operations, security, technical services, networking/telecommunications, help desk/technical support and web development Systems Analyst / Database Analyst Applications support, data/database analysis and maintenance, business intelligence and report writing, quality assurance, testing and software support Geographic Information System (GIS) GIS applications development, GIS data/database analysis and maintenance, quality assurance, testing and GIS Enterprise support/application development IT Manager Technology vision and planning, organizing and directing the IS department's activities, and IS/GIS staff supervision The IS Workgroup maintains a network, server, computing and domain environment that provides infrastructure for electronic file storage and document management, E-mail, phone systems, mobile phones, databases, remote access, customer and utility billing systems, financial and human resources information systems, engineering applications, desktop applications, internet access, point of sale, SCADA applications, site access and video security. The GIS Workgroup is responsible for maintenance of District asset data, mapping of facilities and right of way, development and deployment of mobile and web based applications, statistical and spatial analysis, database administration, and engineering project support. The District's Enterprise GIS aims to improve business systems, maximize operational efficiency, inform responsible decision making, and promote cost savings by empowering staff to work smarter. These goals will be accomplished by providing accessible GIS services internally and publically, integrating GIS with other systems, providing mobile and cloud capabilities, ensuring quality and timely data, lending technical support, and expanding inter- and intradepartmental collaboration.
