Soft music plays in the space decorated with earth tones while the scent of aromatherapy fills the air. Most wel- coming of all is JuJu Kim, a highly experienced and nurturing health practitioner who special- izes in Chinese medicine, including acupuncture, nutrition and herbs. Kim opened her Carmel healing center last year ; prior to that she worked alongside doc- tors and other acupuncturists, including time in Los Angeles where she was a massage therapist with celebrity clients. "Chinese medicine looks at the whole per- son," Kim explains. "When people ask, 'Does this work?' I explain it's been time tested for 4,000 years. Now we can measure what's happening with acupuncture as far as releasing endorphins to help the body heal and relax." Kim, who graduated college at the tender age of 18 and received her Master's in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Five Branches Univer- sity in Santa Cruz, treats all ages, including chil- dren, and offers cosmetic acupuncture as a nat- ural alternative to plastic surgery. Her goal is to find the root cause of illness and pain as well as treating the symptoms. "I want to be of service," she says. "It is my calling to help people change on a deeper level."
